n95

i mentioned in my earlier post that the pictures were taken using my n95..

hehe. which i forgot to mention that i had for a month or so now.

my old o2 mini S has served me well, till last month or so when o2 rang up to inquire if i wanted an upgrade(renew contract). so i said yea i did, listened to what they had to offer and what not.

but at the time, the deal wasnt a steal. if i wanted an n95, i had to pay a certain sum for the phone. though i was willing since the price of the phone is enough to cover the cost for the bill for a year. but with the blood of a malaysian boiling strong inside of me, i said no and waited for a better deal to come by.

which it did!

a few days afterwards, a whole new package was available for me to get the n95 without paying the extra sum for the phone.

didnt take long for me to make that visit to the o2 shop.

whilst i liked my mini S, i decided that i'd sent it back to malaysia for my dad to use.

on the whole, the n95 is just brilliant. the applications available is incredible. though like all new gadgets to come off the market, there has to be a flaw. which for the n95 was the battery. the phone has too many applications that it sucks the battery dry in about 2-3 days tops. depending on how you use the phone. use the camera and video for more than 20 minutes, then the battery's gonna be dead in about 10 minutes later.

which is bad, but think about it. n95 is suppose to be a phone and not a camcorder. if you wanted to record something continuously, get a camcorder. :D

a week after i got the n95, i felt that 1gb wasnt enough for a phone this hightech, so i browsed the net and found out that sandisk had introduced a 4gb card. it was great news, less than 10 minutes of surfing, amazon.co.uk was selling em for quite reasonable. so without hesitation, i bought myself a 4gb card to fulfill all those camwhoring and musiquejunkie needs of mine.

the n95 has lotsa more applications which i dont really use daily like gps mapping, wifi and loads others. so if your interested on those, i'd suggest surfing the web to find out. dont ask me. :D

striped

as the cold wind swept in, i pulled the duvet over my head. not wanting to wake up and face the world..

then a sharp buzz came from underneath the pillow.

switching off the alarm, it was already 10am.

as i sat on the corner of my bed, it dawned on me how nice it was to wake up at 10am on a tuesday, since i normally have to be at work at 6.45am on a normal day. but today wasnt a normal day. there was much to do.

so i washed myself and read through my notes and slowly trotted off to meet my project lecturer. this would be my third visit to his office and today would mark the first commencement of the actual thing.

he offered me biscuits as i walked into his office, declining i explained that i was fasting. he nodded and mentioned that i must be longing for the fasting to be over, so i'd be able to celebrate 'Hari Raya'.

amused. i've forgotten that he wasnt like most of the ignorant brits who knew nothing about malaysia.

within the next few minutes, he mentioned 5 maybe even 6 complex equations which i simply nodded whilst my brain dug deep trying to remember how each function worked.

'this is gonna be tough', i thought

as the minutes ticked by, i took notes of what i didnt have a clue about so i'd look em up later.

finally it was over.

what seemed like a long time, was actually just 30 minutes.

as i picked myself up, closing the door behind me. i took slow strides. rambling to myself, the equations and solutions, the technicality and brilliance of the project. it was a hard project, but i liked it. i wanted it.

so i guess i have to stick with it and work hard.

-

a few hours later back in my room.

my phone buzzed again, this time a reminder icon popping up.

it was time.

putting on a pin-striped shirt, i realize that i was wearing a striped boxers as well. tickled by the coincident. i sat down in front of my pc and read up on what was needed for the last time. then, off i was for my interview.

i arrived early, getting my things together. folders out, jacket folded to the side. a quick visit to the loo, just to make sure i looked presentable.

3 minutes to time, i knocked on the door and went in...

--

overall, it was okay. i'd reckon i couldnt of done any better.

saying my thank you's and good bye's, they said they'd get back to me earliest by next week.

crossing my fingers. hopefully i'd get the job.

till then.

bye!

p/s: btw, the picture above was taken using my n95 :D

youthful sins

i was updating my mp3list when i found this song..

i dont really fancy piano tuned songs, cus well. i dunno, i just prefer guitar strums or plucking when it comes to melody of songs. but then again, i might just be tone deaf and i'm just rambling nonsense. :D

this song really reminds me a lot of my old relationships, the youthful sins which we ignorantly pursued. then nothing mattered as long as we were together. late night outings when we'd only go back when the parents call. the daily arguments with parents about the rocket high phone bills and excessive money spending on outings and gifts.

armageddon could come and yet i'd feel secure as long as i was with er.. (whoever i was wit then). those pretentious no meaning 'i love you's ' .. i didnt know squat about love then i tell ya.

i reckon i still dont.

but hey, least i try :D

headhunting

most people dont know how hard it is to get a job. a professional good earning job is tough to get. even with the help of the internet, so called job search which supposedly help us narrow down the search easily.

the good ones are still hard to find.

sites like jobstreet do help, where you put up your cv and qualifications. yet even after hours of tweaking and editing of the online cv, you'd still only get hits from low-end company's.

i'm not trying to say that those company are bad, but what happened to all the elite company;s? those international or multinational ones.

my profile seem to get hits from factories in malaysia, which is definitely not an enviroment which i wanna work in.

so it still comes down to contacts, whom you know and who can hook you up.

which is .. pfft. annoying.

anywayts. enough ramblings. ciao :D

solitude

as the water slowly falls onto my hair, pushing it downwards till it covers my ears. the noise of the outside world slowly fading, all thats left is the silence of my own thoughts.

a day has ended and in a few hours another day shall begin..

this is my solitude.
my 20 minute shower, as a take my time to wash my now shoulder length hair.
i close my eyes and feel nothing.
a pleasant nothingness which relaxes me.
i am at ease.
the troubles of the world has been muted.
this is what i look forward to every fortnight. whilst others drink their sorrows away in nearby pubs.
i take showers.
long warm showers.

where the only thing that matters is me and well,

my hair.

fasting is tough!

i've heard my friends complained in the past about how they were not prepared yet for fasting month. i used to think it didnt make any difference, that it was just rubbish talks to say; i'm too weak to fast.

this year i finally understood how they felt.

the first 3 days of fasting month was pure agony, i stayed in bed for the first 2 days thanking god that classes start during week 3. come the 3rd day of fasting, paired with working during the day. i was literally flat on my bed at the end of the day awaiting for breakfast.

yesterday was another grueling day for me.

habit of sleeping late, coupled with waking up as early as 6am to go to work. finishing work at 11.30am, came back to reply some important emails and off to class at 2pm.

i was absolutely smashed, the class was supposed to be from 2-4pm. but i just couldnt take it. i was nodding off too often at things which didnt make sense. i left at 3pm, slept for a good hour then back to class at 5pm feeling refreshed.

fasting really took its toll on me yesterday. luckily i didnt have class this morning, so i had the luxury of sleeping in.. mmmmm :)

anyways,

i've realized that i havent been posting up any pictures for some time now. so i'll probably do so in due time. till then. lates ! :D

indecisive

yesterday i was talking to a classmate of mine whom i think is the most indecisive man i've ever met in my life.

he really cant make any decisions.

first he was suppose to do placement, then he decided not to. then he was suppose to apply for a uni accommodation, but since his decision to NOT-do placement was so last minute, the accommodation office didnt accept his application. he was suppose to do BEng but now he's changed it to MEng. now he's planning to do a placement after he finishes his 3rd year and will be traveling to and fro from london everyday for classes.

man if there was a country run by people like him, its gonna go down faster than a meteor.

he also doesnt handle stress very well, admitting that he wont be able to think at all.

haha. mind you this chap is a brilliant student. really good with math and technical stuff.

the only career i can think best suited for him is being a researcher. a post without any ultimate decision making and stress.

anyways, i'm off to shower.

been waking up before 6am for 3 days straight now. not good.

happy fasting chaps.

Project

last monday was the start of my third year, a mixed feelings when i stepped into my faculty seeing old familiar faces.

though this year has a good feel to it. i have a better room, without worries about food now. i'm already working and i have no financial responsibilities. in other words, a more relaxed year to come. i hope.

last years financial disaster has left me with some habits of being really stingy. its somehow has become second nature of late. :P

so with the official start to the third year or final year, its not suprising that everyone was busy finding for project supervisors to discuss about final year projects. which includes me as well.

my last few words to my mom before i left malaysia was that i was gonna find myself a good lecturer before the start of class.

yet on the first day of class, i was no where near doing so.

i've emailed like 6-7 lecturers. asking to set up a meeting. yet non of em replied.

except for one, the head of department, a specialist in optoelectronics.

spoke to him and he was fairly alright. just that since he was the head of department, it will be hard to find him when the time comes.

so i went off again, looking for a different lecturer.

feeling frustrated, i decided to try any lecturer which interests me.

come tuesday morning, i stepped into the surrey space centre.

gave a quick knock and he answered.

he seemed relaxed, asking me for my interests. i was clueless and answered his question like how i'd answer to a job interview. he laughed and said, i was trying to reassure him of my capabilities instead of answering.

'its software based..'

thats good to know. since i didnt want to spend hours and hours in the lab.

'it'll be extensive c programming and perhaps a lil java. there'll be some simulations ..'

sounds okay to me.

'just to give you a feel of what to expect, look up for genetic algorithms, optomization and scheduling..'

lotsa big words, but after googling em up. it was a bunch of array programs. seemed alright.

so i consulted my friends who know my capabilities. after much thinking..

i was sold.

the project title is satelite autonomy, i'll be making a software to maintain a satelite in space. balancing its power supply, solar panels, priotizing tasks given and making sure it doesnt die out in the process.

i cant wait to start. :)

when 24 hours seems longer

last friday i had those days when 24 hours just feel longer than it really is.

last year when i worked for nike, it was a routine to be overloaded with work not to mention a strict dateline which we'd always barely make it.

it was dreadful, in a sense that your body feels too tired. you'd appreciate moments of nothingness, that 5 minutes rest from all the work that's piling on. lack of sleep also didnt help, it made things worst as your body end up sore and aching at every joint.

when i stopped working, i thought that'll be the end of that.

then came last friday,

waking up at 5ish am in the morning, to pick up some freshie student. having slept at 1+am. whenever there was something bad happens, i'd normally be able to predict it. its sort of a sixth sense, but it only works when the shit finally hits the fan.

that morning, the word 'freshie' made sense. seeing the new bloke all innocent looking and inexperience with life's trouble abroad. updating with news from back home, i cant help but feel a lil grudge against his sponsors.

to this day, i think i've applied more than 4 times. yet each time, i get turned down. not making any sense. cept that there might be someone out there you has a grudge against me or my dad.

yet here i am, helping out a student from the very same sponsor ..

oh can u just feel the hate.

putting that aside, the list of badluck and trouble began unfolding. cutting the story short, i was left to drop off a friend to work. it was a friends car, which i was clueless about its faults and flaws. thinking of being the good samaritan, i filled up the car with petrol before driving back.

'£10 pounds via mastercard' .. yet it felt weird.

finally when i reached uni. the car suddenly brokedown.

thinking it was an old car, i tried to start it.. the more i tried, the more frustrated i got. finally a friend arrived and we pushed the car downhill and it started..

for a while...

then it died again.

it was then that my friend finally mentions that the car was actually a diesel powered car.

oh no. the shit has hit the fan.

after pushing the car aside, i had a long day ahead and another worry like this wasnt helping at all. my friend told me to go to work, so i did. from 12noon to 4pm all i could think of is just how much money would this cost me. if the engine died permanently, i'd have to pay for a new car...

there goes my whole summer's work pay. i thought.

as the clock hits 4pm, i was off again back to uni for another job. this one started at 5pm till 7pm. managed to pop by to see how was the repairing goin on. half hoping that everything would be fine.

it still couldnt start..

went to work and finished, pushed the car to a different location and called my uncle. he was already on the way to pick me up. i had promised to help him out with some stuff. half reluctant to keep to my words, but i didnt have a heart to say no at the very last minute.

so off i was again, back to my uncle's place.

he was preparing some food to sell the following day, so my task was to get the food ready. 1620 sticks of satay(meat on sticks, some what a smaller version of a shish kebab) had took me till 5am to finish. barely getting any shut eye, i was up again at 6am to help him pack.

i was suppose to help him sell the food, but i had to ask him to let me off. i felt guilty for leaving my friends to deal with a problem i caused. let alone going off suddenly and getting rich in the process.

he reluctantly said yes, knowing i had strong reasons to do so.

he dropped be off at heathrow since he was going the opposite direction. taking the shuttle bus home, i finally had some sleep.

i was drained, mentally and physically.

the day isnt finish yet.

received my items from the storage company, i unpacked slowly..

at 5pm i slept. till almost 7pm

then i was off again to send off a good ol senior to heathrow.

left for dinner and finally hit the sack at 1am.

-

more updates soon.
